Let's Connect
Dr. Damir Matrljan

Culture is the invisible architecture of every organization.

Everyone talks about it. Almost no one manages it proactively.

I help organizations build cultures where people feel safe, engaged, and empowered to do their best work. Through two decades of leading complex projects across consulting, pharma, retail, fintech, and academia, I've learned that every transformation starts with how people work together.

What drives me

Twenty years ago, after completing my electrical engineering studies, I started working in a project office of a pharma company. Somewhere along the way, I realized that the hardest challenges in organizations aren't technical. They're human.

That realization took me from managing projects to managing portfolios across 9 countries. From earning an MBA in Strategic Project Management and a Master in Applied Business Research, to completing two doctorates. From being employed at companies like AfterPay and Valora to founding Perceptium, a platform that turns organizational culture from a buzzword into something you can actually measure and manage. My engineering roots never left me. I still build the tools, systems, and technologies that make all of this work at scale.

People sometimes look at my CV and wonder if I'm several people in one. I'm not. I'm just someone who has been obsessively driven by one question for twenty years: how do we create workplaces where people feel safe, engaged, and empowered to be at their natural best?

Where Passion Meets Expertise

Three threads run through everything I do. Each started as a passion. Each became deep expertise. Together, they're what makes my work different.

The passion

Leading Complex Projects & Innovation

I thrive in complexity. Large-scale transformations, multi-country rollouts, building new things from zero. Not just managing projects, but finding creative solutions to problems everyone else calls impossible.

Track record: Portfolio management across 9 European countries at AfterPay. PMO build-up at Valora Holding (Switzerland). IPMA Level A certified Portfolio Director. 20+ years of delivering results.
The obsession

Organizational Culture & Behavior

Culture isn't a poster on the wall. It's how decisions get made when no one's watching. My research and practice focus on making the invisible visible: measuring culture, understanding behavior, and transforming how people work together.

Depth: Two doctorates (PhD Summa Cum Laude + DBA) focused on organizational culture. Founded Perceptium, an evidence-based culture diagnostics platform.
The multiplier

Teaching, Coaching & Developing Leaders

Knowledge only matters if you pass it on. That's why I pursued two doctorates. Not just to research, but to teach at universities and business schools. I combine deep practical experience with academic rigor, and I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.

Impact: Adjunct Faculty, Mentor and Career Coach. Teaching courses in Project Management, Strategy and Leadership and HR across DBA, MSc and BSc levels. Thesis & Dissertation Committee member. Student feedback: overwhelmingly positive.
